We all know about Midori, the four piece female-fronted punk band from Osaka, but many people don’t know that before Midori, there was Usagi.
Usagi (うさぎ) was formed by four friends from Osaka, Japan in 2001. During their small time together, Usagi appeared on the compilation It’s Something Beautiful with the songs “Wakare Uta” and “Natsu no Yohaku”. After performing around the Osaka area for a couple of years, they released their only mini-album Akemi-San to Midori-san which was released July 16, 2003 when Goto founded the group Midori. Just a few months later the band broke up.
Akemi-San to Midori-san has to be, in my honest opinion one of the best albums Mariko Goto has been a part of. Every track displays the foundation on which Midori grew on, but in it’s own sense it stands out by having very emotional tracks such as the final song, 夜光虫 (which translates to “Noctiluca”, the phosphorescent animalcule commonly known as the Sea Sparkle).
ミオソチス is the second song from Akemi-San to Midori-san and it will blow you away, listen for yourself.
Since it’s hard to find this album anywhere you can download it as well as Midori’s early demos HERE.
